Colts release tight end ahead of roster deadline

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -- The Indianapolis Colts have begun their roster cuts. The team must be trimmed down to 53 players by Tuesday's 4 p.m. Eastern deadline.

With one of the first moves of the day, the Colts are waiving Jelani Woods, per ESPN. The Colts drafted the 6-foot-7 tight end in the third round three years ago. Since, Woods has dealt with multiple injuries.

Last August, Woods was placed on season-ending injured reserve after sustaining a toe injury that required surgery. He also missed the entire 2023 season as he battled a hamstring injury.

During his rookie season, Woods logged 15 games with the Colts, scoring three touchdowns. His best game came in the win against Kansas City where he scored two touchdowns on his only two receptions.

WISH-TV Colts Insider Kevin Bowen predicts the Colts will keep four tight ends on the final roster: rookie first round draft pick Tyler Warren, 8-year veteran Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree and Will Mallory.
