BBC Breakfast interrupted as Naga Munchetty makes emotional announcement | Bristol Live

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was back on the red sofa on Saturday

Naga Munchetty delivered some heartbreaking death news live during Saturday's BBC Breakfast.

Naga and her co-presenter, Charlie Stayt, had returned to the red sofa to bring viewers the morning's top news stories.

Simon King was also present in the studio to provide the latest weather forecasts. Nevertheless, whilst sharing the day's news updates, Naga stopped to reveal the tragic passing.

"14 minutes past six is the time," Naga paused before announcing, "The founding member of the band The Turtles, Mark Volman, has died a the age of 78."

Following a clip of one of their popular songs, photographs of Mark were displayed on screen.

She went on, "The band was known for the number-one hits Happy Together and Elenore. Volman passed away yesterday after a brief and unexpected illness, according to his representative," reports the Express.

This wasn't the sole death announcement featured on the programme, as moments earlier, Charlie had confirmed that a man in Australia had perished in a shark attack.

He informed viewers, "A surfer has died near Sydney after being bitten by what is believed to have been a large shark.

"It's the first fatal shark attack near the city since 2022. The attack happened at a beach just north of Sydney, which is popular with swimmers.

"Emergency services were called after reports that a man had suffered critical injuries. He died shortly after being brought to shore."

Meanwhile, on BBC Breakfast, Naga and Charlie spoke with their guest, Adam Ball, who was living with a life-limiting condition and had received a prognosis of "30 years to live".

Naga revealed at the start of the programme: "Given 30 years to live after being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, how Adam Ball is defining predictions and celebrating his birthday by swimming the length of the Lake District's largest lakes."
