I visited Eden Lounge in Shoreditch, where the concept was cool but the dinner did not live up to expectations.
The restaurant in Great Eastern Street describes itself as a relaxed and nature inspired lounge for all day dining. It is in stark contrast with the Sinners dining and entertainment experience on the floor below.
Both spaces play up to the connotations behind their names.
Eden Lounge is a street-level all day eatery, and Sinners can be found below (Image: Newsquest) We were welcomed to the restaurant by Nuno, who looked after us for the evening, and shown to a table by the restaurant's window front.
Inside, Eden Lounge feels modern but comforting thanks to the warm behind-the-bar lighting, soft green paint and plants dotted around.
I ordered an orange blossom tea and my boyfriend opted for a beer.
The tea was subtle in flavour but was a nice way to cleanse the palate before our meal.
The vibe was inspired by nature and very botanical (Image: Newsquest) When it came time to order food, my boyfriend chose the spiced pulled lamb shoulder tacos and loaded sweet potato fries.
I went for the hummus and flatbread, followed by the plant-based burger.
My boyfriend's tacos came first, looking rich with a fresh garnish on top.
He was impressed by the depth of flavour and spices in the meat, but did mention that it was quite an oily dish.
My hummus and flatbread followed, which was nicely presented - though it appears the kitchen ran out of flatbread, replacing it with toasted seeded bread instead.
We started our meal off with lamb tacos and hummus and bread (Image: Newsquest) This was a bit of a shame, but it was still a tasty starter.
The sweet potato loaded fries were a bit of a letdown, and were not what we were expecting.
It was disappointing that the "fries dressed in rich, decadent layers" as described by the menu, were in fact sweet potato fries with melted cheese on.
The square outline of the cheese slices could still be distinguished and while it's possible this could have been an unfortunate one off, it did not make for the most appetising dish.
The 'loaded' fries looked sad (Image: Newsquest) My boyfriend ate some but could not finish them.
We instead halved my plant-based burger which was the best of the savoury eats we had.
The burger was cooked nicely and the sauce really added to the flavour.
We chose to share a dessert, and this proved to be our favourite course of the trip.
The burger and cheesecake were the best elements of the dinner, which we shared (Image: Newsquest) The vegan cheesecake was light and creamy, and a dessert we would both definitely order again.

Eden Lounge has all the makings for a popular eatery, especially with the all-day appeal to co-workers and brunchers in the capital.
The staff were lovely and attentive, and the space is aesthetic.
Unfortunately, on our visit the food let the rest of it down.
