MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Vermont is set to receive over $15 million for electric vehicle charging infrastructure after the Federal Highway Administration released previously paused funds. The funding had been halted following an executive order from President Trump in January, which called for a review of certain electric vehicle infrastructure funding.
The Department of Transportation recently updated its electric vehicle guidance, allowing states to access the frozen funds. This updated guidance aims to streamline program development and requires states to submit updated plans.
The release of funds comes more than a month after states, including New York and Vermont, filed lawsuits to access the funding. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program will now enable the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure along key interstate and state highway corridors in Vermont.
