In Broadalbin, the Sunflower 50 Race for a Cause go-cart event recently helped raise money for a veterans organization in Rotterdam. The fifth annual event, held at Perry's Sunflower Maze on Sunday with about 3,500 spectators, featured go-cart racing, vendors, raffles and race team events. The festival raised money for Operation at Ease in Rotterdam, which pairs veterans and first responders with dogs from shelters and provides free training for post-traumatic stress disorder and mobility service dogs. In Altamont, the New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) will celebrate 50 years of advancing employment for individuals with disabilities and qualified veterans next week with a day of service at the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center. The Albany Therapeutic Riding Center (ATRC) offers customized therapeutic riding services to youth and adults. Programs are developed based on the student's individual needs, working on a range of goals to address specific areas, including but not limited to muscular, cognitive, speech/communication, listening skills, anxiety/stress reduction, and other challenges. NYSID employees will lend a helping hand with outdoor projects that include: staining picnic tables and chairs, weeding gardens and flower beds, and seasonal property beautification. In Columbia County, CREATE Council On The Arts announced its 2025 to 2026 cohort of Columbia County's Creative Catalyst grant recipients. Nine grantees were each awarded $1,000. Grantees will present a public presentation of their work and during the next year, as they develop their projects, The program prioritizes applicants within a specific income range, those who were within the 80% median income based on location determined by HUD. The grantees are: Ntangou Badila, Deborah Rice, Adriana Tampasis and Kate Warren, all of Hudson. Nathan Gassaway, of Chatham, Valerie Richmond of Hillsdale, Mary Flinn of Chatham, Janelle Lawrence of Craryville and Amelia Toelke of Chatham.

In Schenectady, Music Haven recently honored Anne Putnam, CEO of Fenimore Asset Management, as the 2025 Music Haven Maven. The presentation was held at the Music Haven Summer Social, which was held just before the final concert of the music series' season. Continuing the Putnam family's legacy of supporting nonprofits, Putnam was recognized by elected officials with citations and proclamations -- including one from city Mayor Gary McCarthy, who declared Sunday, August 24 "Anne Putnam Day" in Schenectady. Music Haven's longtime Volunteer Producing Artistic Director, Mona Golub, was also recognized. Eileen and Jeffrey Handelman served as honorary chairs of the event. Entertainment for the pre-concert celebration was provided by Azzaam Hameed, with catering by Nicole's.
