Netflix reveals its most popular movie ever with whopping 236 million views

NETFLIX has revealed the app's most popular movie ever - with a new title taking the top spot.

First place was previously held by Red Notice (with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot), but that's now been overtaken by an even bigger Netflix title.

Now number one position is held by KPop Demon Hunters.

The 2025 US musical animation follows a K-pop girl group called Huntr/x and their secret double lives as demon hunters.

Their set against rival boy band the Saja Boys, whose members are demons in disguise.

"KPop Demon Hunters has gone up, up, up, and it's their Golden moment," Netflix said in a statement.

"The animated musical officially became Netflix's most popular film of all time on the Most Popular English Films list with 236 million total views."

The movie also became the most-watched film last week in number one spot with 25.4 million views.

And Netflix has even released a sing-along "party at home" version that's now streaming on the app.

The official title for the new version is KPop Hunters Sing-Along.

The movie was produced by Sony Pictures Animation, and was helmed by Maggie Kang, a Canadian film director born in Seoul, South Korea.

Kang described the movie as a "love letter to K-pop", which is the short name for Korean popular music, now widely loved in the west.

It dropped on Netflix on June 20, 2025 (with a two-day limited theatrical release of the sing-along version on August 23 and 24).

The 1hr 20min movie cost $100 million to make, and has received rave reviews for its animation, voice acting, storyline, and music.

The singalong theatrical release made about $19.2 million at the box office.

KPop Demon Hunters' soundtrack album has also soared to top positions on music charts.

The soundtrack features the original song "Takedown" performed by TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung.

"I have been a fan of these incredible artists and their work for many years," Kang said.

"So it's a dream come true to have original songs written and produced for our film by legendary talent such as THEBLACKLABEL.

"I also couldn't be more thrilled about our collaboration with Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung of TWICE.

"It really legitimizes our film and songs in the K-pop world.

"It's proof that we achieved what we set out to do, which is make a real K-pop group."

The movie stars Arden Cho as Huntr/x lead vocalist, alongside bandmates May Hong as Mira and Ji-young Yoo as Zoey.

Lost's Daniel Dae Kim and Hangover's Ken Jeong also appear in the movie as Healer Han and agent/manager Bobby respectively.

There's no official word on a sequel yet, but Netflix is reportedly considering several follow-up projects.

That includes movie sequels, a TV series, a short film, and even a stage musical.

KPop Demon Hunters has taken the lead over several other major Netflix hits.

They include Red Notice in second place, Carry-On as the third hit, and Don't Look Up in fourth.
