According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident happened on the 3500 block of Market Street, where a Ford Fusion traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed struck the rear of a motorcycle driven by a 45-year-old man, also headed eastbound.
Following the collision, the driver of the Fusion fled the scene, leaving the injured motorcyclist behind.
Emergency crews transported the victim to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a brain bleed and a fractured pelvis -- both considered serious injuries, according to police.
SDPD's Traffic Division launched an investigation and later located the abandoned Fusion in National City. Officers were able to track down and arrest the driver, whose identity has not yet been released.
The incident is being investigated as a felony hit-and-run.
