Samsung has unveiled a new addition to its Galaxy smartphone range, the Galaxy S25 FE. The tech giant announced the 'newest and most attainable addition to the Galaxy S25 lineup' this week, in a move which could be seen as early spoiler to next week's expected iPhone 17 launch.
The S25 FE is part of Samsung's budget-friendly 'Fan Edition' series and starts at £649 from Samsung and Amazon. Despite its lower price tag, it still boasts impressive features such as a 6.7" dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 50MP wide camera, plus 256GB of storage, a powerful 4,900 mAh battery and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
It also comes with a host of Galaxy AI functions like Generative Edit and Circle to Search, alongside Google's AI-powered Gemini Live. All these features are housed in an enhanced Armor Aluminum frame with a slim, lightweight build and a choice of four colours: Icyblue, Jetblack, Navy and White.
While it's £150 cheaper than the Galaxy S25, many Android fans prefer to spread the cost with a contract such as Sky Mobile's £23 launch deal. This package includes £368 worth of freebies, as customers can claim a free Galaxy Watch7 worth £239 and get a pair of free Galaxy Buds3 FE worth £129 included with the phone.
The phone comes with a 100MB data allowance, but for those needing more data, Sky's data plans include 3GB for £6 or 50GB for £12. It's important to note that Sky's £23 deal is on a 36-month contract, but customers can swap to a new phone anytime after 24 months at no extra cost.
Meanwhile, Currys-backed retailer Mobiles.co.uk is selling the device on iD Mobile's £26.99 unlimited data package, though this doesn't come with complimentary earbuds.
Revealing the new handset, Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said: "The Galaxy S25 FE plays an important role as a gateway into the broader Galaxy AI ecosystem, making these experiences more attainable for a wider range of users.
"With expanded personalised AI experiences and AI-powered photography and editing tools, Galaxy S25 FE empowers more people to bring greater convenience and creativity into their everyday lives."
The release timing might be viewed by some as a bid to upstage Apple, arriving just days before the anticipated iPhone 17 reveal, which is expected to be announced on September 9. Prior to this, Apple's current flagship - the iPhone 16e - has seen price cuts at various retailers including Amazon and Sky Mobile, with costs now beginning at £544 or £18 monthly.
However, for Android enthusiasts, the Daily Express Tech Editor Dave Snelling tested the Galaxy S25 FE personally, commenting: "The new S25 FE is another decent device from Samsung. It feels super premium in the hand and has a pixel-packed 6.7-inch display.
"There are all the AI smarts found on the standard S25, including full Google Gemini access, plus other features such as fast charging and a toughened design. No, it doesn't get the impressive Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the cameras can't match the Ultra and there are less colour choices but if those things don't worry you then the FE is one to watch out for.
"The only issues from my short time with this phone could be that it only comes in one large screen size, and it is still pretty expensive. Samsung has got some promotional offers, but I can't help thinking a £599 price tag would seem more appealing."
