Rolling road closures for 51-foot Hindu statue inauguration coming to Brampton | INsauga

Drivers and Brampton Transit riders might run into detours or delays on Saturday due to road closures for a parade and unveiling of a giant 51-foot-tall Hindu statue.

The statue depicts Shivji, also known as Shiva - a major Hindu deity worshipped as the supreme god by Shaivites.

The massive, 51-foot tall statue will be unveiled at the Bhavani Shankar Mandir on Nexus Avenue in Brampton at an inauguration event on Saturday, with a parade that will see rolling road closures.

"Routes 1 Queen, 23 Sandalwood, 35 Clarkway, 50/50A Gore Road may experience delays due to this event," the city says in a release.

The parade route starts at 9225 The Gore Road and will travel south to Ebenezer Road, then east to Nexus Avenue before travelling south to its final destination.

The parade is expected to run between 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Designed by artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat, the massive statue was constructed in multiple pieces and has blue skin, a staff and a snake around the neck.

Kumawat is also the artist behind the 55-foot statue of the Hindu god Hanuman at the Sabha Mandir in Brampton, and a 51-foot statue of the Hindu god Lord Rama in Mississauga that was revealed last month.
