No. 24 Cornell men's soccer rolled to a 3-0 win over NJIT on Saturday at Berman Field, improving to 4-1-0 while the Highlanders fell to 2-4-2.
After a scoreless first half dominated by Cornell's 12-shot barrage, the Big Red broke through in the 49th minute. Connor Miller converted a pass from Aidan Martin and Westin Carnevale to open the scoring. Kasper Wollstein doubled the lead in the 83rd minute before Carnevale sealed the result late with Cornell's third goal. Sergio Zapata also recorded an assist.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg made one save for his fourth shutout of the season, tying Jon Ross '74 for the program's career clean-sheet record with 18. Head coach John Smith praised Friedberg's consistency and called the milestone "another fantastic accolade" in his career.
Cornell outshot NJIT 12-1 in the first half and continued to pressure Highlander goalkeeper Devin Armstrong throughout. Smith said he was pleased with the team's patience and finishing in the second half.
