MEDINA, Ohio -- With spring weather starting to emerge, work on the playground upgrade at Ken Cleveland Park is expected to begin this week.
Parks and Recreation Director Jansen Wehrley announced that the work should begin, weather permitting.
The city learned late last year that the Ken Cleveland Foundation had agreed to fund the entire $111,928 cost of the purchase and installation of new playground equipment.
Wehrley has said that the playground at Ken Cleveland Park is a little more than 30 years old and is in need of replacement.
He said the project had been on the city's radar for 2025, as the recreation department has been trying to replace aging playgrounds at city parks.
Wehrley also announced that the Medina County sanitary engineers have started a project at Huffman/Cunningham Park along the west bank of the Rocky River.
"They are doing a restoration of the stream bank that is encroaching on a sanitary sewer," Wehrley said.
"The tree clearing will run through April 30 and access to the park will be limited during this time."
Lucky Ladies Night Out
In other news, Main Street Medina wants to remind residents that the first 2025 Ladies Night out will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. March 13 in the city's downtown area.
Participants are encouraged to wear green in honor of St. Patrick's Day. They will be able to sign up for the "Lucky You" passport listing 30 participating shops and eateries offering special discounts, giveaways and sales during the event.
Participants who visit at least 10 of the participating locations and spend at least $5 at each location will be entered into a drawing to win a $150 e-gift card or one of 21 gift cards from participating businesses.
Also new this year, visitors can jump on the BVIP Party Limo as it circles the square, then heads down West Liberty Street, then to the South Town District and back to the square.
