Many letters to the editor quote Scripture to justify their beliefs. The MAGA cult often justify their positions as "ordained" by Jesus ... Trump being the model of Christ in action.

In that spirit, let's look at the very Ten Commandments they want to lead our school curriculum, justifying many hateful positions as they interpret "scripture" and advocate for persecution of nonbelievers.

Refer to Commandment No. 3, which is often interpreted as simply a prohibition against cursing. There is much more. For those who justify their actions as "God-given," they should show caution when using the "Lord's name in vain."

As you circulate messages of anger and hate, exclusion and revenge ... justification for the elite entitled white Christians, reflect on the "law": The commandment is directed against the abuse of the name of God, where God's name is used to support the truth of the statement being sworn to. Think about this as you post or speak, citing God as support ... is that a sin?
