Dotemu's newest beat 'em up has just received a release date and two additional confirmed characters to add to the roster. Developed by Tribute Games, Marvel Cosmic Invasion blends the art style and fighting mechanics from classic arcade games with new foes and locations to make for a memorable experience to old and new fans. Now with fan-favorite characters Phoenix and Iron Man coming to the game, players will have more options than ever to face the villains set to conquer the galaxy.
The publisher had previously revealed that Marvel Cosmic Invasion is set in the midst of a massive attack all across the galaxy, forcing heroes from Earth and space to team up to stand a chance. The new characters have experience in both areas, with Phoenix deriving her power from a cosmic entity and Iron Man creating ships to traverse space multiple times.
In the release date trailer, Iron Man is shown clashing with MODOK before cutting to the gameplay that players can expect from the new characters. Phoenix is shown off with a powerful flame attack that travels across most of the screen along with dash attacks that damage enemies and combo into additional attacks. She is also shown to have unique interactions when paired with Wolverine, her fellow X-Man. Iron Man is shown using a variety of ranged and melee attacks, also stringing together long combos against his foes. The most recognizable feature of his move set for long-time fans of Marvel games is the massive cannon he unleashes, made popular as the Proton Cannon from the Marvel Vs. Capcom series. All of these small details go to show how much the creators of Marvel Cosmic Invasion were inspired by classic titles.
Just as exciting as the new characters is the release date for the game. At the end of the trailer, Dotemu revealed that the game is releasing on December 1st, in time for the holidays. The game will be available on Steam, Switch 2, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 4 and 5.
