Eureka fire grows to over 160 acres south of Joshua Tree

A vegetation fire south of Joshua Tree in San Bernardino County reported just past noon on Friday, May 30 has grown to over 160 acres, fire information nonprofit Watch Duty states on its site.

The fire, known as the Eureka fire, is near Lower Covington Flat Road and Nolina Cove Road, in a part of Joshua Tree National Park.

There is no current structure threat, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department on X. The county fire department is working alongside Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit, Joshua Tree National Park and the Bureau of Land Management California to fight the fire. The department noted that residents in Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley may see smoke from the fire.
