Doctor Who actor David Tennant was, at one point, primed and ready to silver-surf his way into the Marvel universe, the star recently revealed at MCM Comic Con in London.
During a Q&A section at the event, a fan asked Tennant which supervillain or superhero role he'd like to play, with the the performer first noting that, upon starring in Netflix's Jessica Jones series, he already "got the best one" when he played the villainous Kilgrave on the TV show.
"That worked out quite nicely," Tennant continued. "In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards."
The 54-year-old observed that, "Unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction," making reference to The Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal landing the part in Marvel's upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps blockbuster.
"If it has to be someone, I'm very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly," Tennant added, praising Pascal's skills as an actor.
Still, he "would've quite liked to be Reed Richards" in a Marvel superhero saga.
"I'd quite like to be able to do all that... Even though it's going to be a while before there's another go at that, unfortunately," Tennant said.
As the conversation moved along, Tennant responded to a comical inquiry about his familiarity with Pascal's status as the "internet's daddy," before he reacted to a question about who embodies the "daddy" essence more between himself and Pascal.
"What are the criteria?" Tennant asked as the audience laughed.
"I mean, it would definitely be him. He's Mister Fantastic, in every sense of the word!" Tennant assessed. "I think Pedro Pascal is great. I'm very, very pleased that he exists."
With Pascal in the lead role, Marvel is set to try its hand at generating new interest in Fantastic Four films, after Josh Trank's 2015 reboot (which followed two prior moderately successful Fantastic films in 2005 and 2007) underperformed with audiences.
"It was really intimidating," Pascal previously told Entertainment Weekly about taking the reins as up Richards in the upcoming film. "I relied on the people that I was around to hold me to the experience and help get me through it. Stepping into something like Game of Thrones and then going into the early days of Netflix with Narcos and then Star Wars and the world of video games with The Last of Us, each time I've felt like I couldn't top how intimidating the last one was. They're all scary because you really want to make people happy, especially if it's something that's widely known with particular expectations around it because you want those expectations to be met. You also want to be authentic to yourself so that it can be the best that it can be for anybody who wants to be entertained by a story and travel with us into this world."
