May 27 -- The Southeastern Conference set a record with 13 teams invited to this year's NCAA baseball tournament.
The league already had eight host sites, which the NCAA announced Sunday, and added five more bids Monday when the full 64-team field was revealed.
The full announcement included the top 8 national seeds, which featured six SEC teams, including the top 4.
Auburn is the No. 4 national seed and follows No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Texas and No. 3 Arkansas. LSU is sixth and Georgia seventh.
"A top four national seed is absolutely a big deal, but every road is a tough road," Auburn coach Butch Thompson said in a release. "Every team that's made this field has done something amazing. Four teams stand in our way of a return trip to Omaha. It's nice that it starts right here at Plainsman Park on Friday."
Auburn's regional will include N.C. State, Stetson and Central Connecticut State.
Alabama is headed to Southern Miss for its regional and will be joined by Miami (Florida) and Columbia.
Tennessee's regional has Wake Forest, Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio).
The SEC's regional hosts are Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas, Arkansas, LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss.
"I think we have a very well-rounded field here," Thompson said. "We've had some good fields here. I know our fans are going to get treated to another amazing field of good regional teams here at Plainsman Park. I'm excited about what it's going to feel like in this ballpark and these people being alongside this team as we start this postseason journey."
The other SEC invitations went to Alabama (regional at Southern Miss), Oklahoma (North Carolina), Kentucky (Clemson), Mississippi State (Florida State) and Florida (Coastal Carolina).
The winners of the four-team double-elimination regionals advance to a best-of-3 super regional series with those winners qualifying for the College World Series.
Auburn is hosting a regional for the third time in four years.
"It's huge for our program, three out of the last four years," Auburn star Ike Irish said. "We're starting to build something really special. We have a tall task ahead of us, but we're playing at home. We have to get off to a hot start. We have to pitch well. We have to hit well. If we get off to a hot start, we'll be fine."
