Millwall make it four in a row as they defeat Leicester City and remain third

A first half goal by Femi Azeez sealed the game for Millwall as they defeated Leicester City 1-0 at The Den, secured all three points and maintain third position in the Championship table.

Millwall made one change to their starting eleven from their 2-0 victory over Stoke City last Tuesday. Luke Cundle replaced Will Smallbone who came off injured last time out.

Leicester City started the game best out of the pair. Most notably in the ninth minute, Jordan Ayew passed the ball from the edge of the 18-yard box, into Aaron Ramsey who made a run into the box, which his effort was saved at close range.

Millwall started to build into the game, most notably in the 18th minute when the home side won the ball in the middle of the park, Casper De Norre pushed the ball up field and gave the ball to Femi Azeez, whose attempt was saved by Leicester City goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

After a dull spell in the game, Leicester City broke through in the 38th minute having won the ball from Millwall, Abdul Fatawu ran in behind , however his effort ended up high and wide of the far left post.

Although the game was quiet, the home side found themselves ahead just before half time.

The goal came from De Norre who lobbed the ball from behind the halfway, the pass found Azeez, who held off defender Luke Thomas who tried desperately to hold off the winger, however Azeez dinked the ball over Storlarczyk at the centre of the box for 1-0 Millwall and concluded the first half.

The second half started and within ten minutes, Millwall was awarded a penalty. Azeez skipped past Thomas, the winger got himself into the box until Harry Winks took him down in the box, which the referee awarded a penalty for the home side.

Mihailo Ivanovic stepped up to the spot and took the penalty, however the penalty was saved by Stolarczyk, which kept The Foxes in the game.

Leicester City came close to an equaliser in the 75th minute when a long throw was launched in by Caleb Okoli, the ball reached substitute Wout Faes, he flicked the ball onto first half substitute Julian Carranza who tried an overhead kick, that effort ended up wide of the post.

Millwall closed the game out well, with great defending as theway side put on great pressure towards the end of the game but nothing close to equalising.

Next up for Millwall is a trip to the Kassam Stadium, home of Oxford United. The U's are currently managed by former Millwall manager Gary Rowett, so a chance for him to get one up on his old team next Saturday afternoon

For Millwall it's four wins on the bounce and a chance to further solidify their chances of playoffs this season.
