Continuous rainfall damages crops across Nashik district

Nashik, Oct 26 (UNI) Continuous rainfall for the third consecutive day has caused widespread damage to standing crops across Nashik district in Maharashtra with heavy precipitation recorded today in several talukas.

The prolonged showers have left farmlands waterlogged in Kalvan, Deola, Satana, and Niphad talukas triggering growing distress among farmers across the region.

The Shiv river in Niphad taluka is reported to be flowing above normal levels, while several smaller streams and rivulets throughout the district have overflowed their banks. Extensive rainwater accumulation in low-lying farmlands has created severe challenges for crop management and harvesting operations.

According to agricultural experts, major seasonal crops such as onions, grapes, sugarcane, cotton, rice, and soybeans have suffered varying degrees of damage due to excess moisture and flooding. The onion crop, currently in multiple stages of growth, is considered particularly vulnerable to waterlogging and fungal infections following continuous rains.

While meteorological indications suggest that the rainfall may gradually subside, the three days of persistent precipitation have already inflicted substantial harm to agricultural output and delayed harvesting schedules. The situation has raised deep concern among farming communities preparing for crop collection in the coming weeks.

Local authorities are monitoring river levels and assessing the extent of crop damage, with preliminary reports expected early next week. Farmers' associations have urged the district administration to initiate a damage survey and compensation process at the earliest.
