Pink Lighting Project unites nation for breast cancer awareness

Pink Lighting Project unites nation for breast cancer awareness

In a remarkable display of unity and solidarity, the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS) led by Dr. Rhoel De Leon and Dr. Rica Lumague and the Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines, Inc. (IWCPI), led by National President Minerva Rualo Elizaga, in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), have launched the Pink Lighting Project, illuminating 275 landmarks nationwide in pink.

This initiative, now on its second year, aims to raise awareness on breast cancer, promote early detection, and encourage screenings. From 78 sites last year to 275 this year, the growing participation shows the nation's shared commitment to fight this dreaded disease.

Breast cancer is a significant health concern globally, affecting millions of women each year. In the Philippines, it is the most common type of cancer among women, with over 27,000 cases diagnosed annually. Early detection is key to saving lives, and awareness campaigns like the Pink Lighting Project can help.

By understanding risk factors, recognizing early symptoms, and adopting healthy lifestyle choices, women can reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. The Pink Lighting Project serves as a reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness and the need for collective action in promoting women's health.

As cited by PDC Arlene DG Sanchez, National Chairperson for Health of IWCP: "Lighting up in pink is more than a display -- it is a reminder of hope, courage, and unity. Together, we can save lives through awareness and early detection."
