37th annual Blessing Teddy Bear Clinic teaches valuable healthy habits

QUINCY (WGEM) - The Blessing Teddy Bear Clinic returned for the 37th year Sunday afternoon.

The health and wellness event was held at the Blessing-Riemann College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

It is geared towards children ages 3 to 6, but adults can also learn valuable habits to keep their kids healthy.

Children brought their favorite teddy bear, and were taught on they are supposed to take care of it, with those lessons reflecting back on to taking care of themselves.

Various stations were set up by nursing students, including dental hygiene, physical health, nutrition, fire safety, and toxic household supplies.

"We promote having healthy habits and things where they can live a more balanced life, and they can carry those habits on as they grow," said Brandi Venvertloh, faculty chair for Blessing Teddy Bear Clinic. "I think it's presented to them in a way that they can learn about it even as young as they are, and start to build those habits."

First responders were also present, such as Illinois State Police and Adams County EMS, which Venvertloh says helps get kids more comfortable interacting with emergency services.
