Mostly smooth travel at PDX on Christmas Eve

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Traveling during the busiest time of year, has the potential to make or break your holiday but some airport travelers were pleasantly surprised trying to get to Portland in time for Christmas.

With only a few delays and majority of flights arriving on time or early, there was 'no need to clause a scene.'"It's always a relief to arrive on time, in time for the holiday, we're going to see family, my cousins and my brother, we're happy to be here and it's a relief it was easy," said traveler Amy Fels, flying in from Los Angeles.

"Knowing that it was easy and we got here on time, actually we landed early, it's satisfying and we're ready to spend a good Christmas with our family," said DJ Peluso, traveling from San Francisco.

Christmas jingles filled the airport as travelers were welcomed into the airport and some flyers were even accompanied by Jolly Old Saint Nick, and asked him what could be under the tree when they make it Portland.

"Santa how come you didn't give me my Xbox game, my play station? I said sorry," said Jerry Hinojosa, who dressed up as Santa Clause on his flight. His advice to all this year, "Enjoy the time we have on this beautiful earth because tomorrow is not guaranteed," said Hinojosa.

For many that time is the holidays, which sometimes is the only chance to reunite. A chance some have been waiting years for and wanted to make memorable like Brian Wilcher awaiting his mother's arrival to Portland with a sign.

"Something to make her feel welcome and happy, she's in to this kind of stuff, yeah just something special," said Wilcher. Once his mother arrived and saw the sign and her son for the first time in a year she started crying and was overtaken with holiday joy.

"This is the first Christmas since he's moved here that I've got to spend with him. Just to see him, That's my Christmas, that's my Christmas," said Donna Wilcher.
