Hamilton City Council has reported water test results at the Rototuna Reservoir and other sample sites around the city are clear of any E. coli presence.
A boil water notice was issued yesterday after a single confirmed test yesterday morning (Saturday 4 October) showed the presence of E. coli in a water sample from the Rototuna reservoir. Today's test results showed no E. coli present in samples at the site, or elsewhere in the network.
The boil water notice will remain in place until at least Tuesday as three consecutive clear tests are required before a notice can be lifted.
Council is today working with Civil Defence to use the Emergency Mobile Alert system to support messaging around the notice in the northeast of the city.
People in the affected area are advised to boil any tap water used for drinking, food preparation or hand washing dishes. Good hygiene practices like thoroughly washing hands are also important.
Hamilton City Council Three Waters Unit Director Maire Porter said today's results are good news.
"We had a single confirmed test yesterday and immediately isolated the reservoir, supplied the zone from other areas of our network and commenced a network-wide testing and sampling regime. This is in addition to our routine testing programme."
The current boil water notice applies to the Rototuna Water Supply Zone, which covers around 12,000 properties and around 29,000 residents, as well as a small number of Waikato District Council residents supplied from the zone. A list of affected streets is on Council's website.
Only Waikato residents supplied by the Greenhill bulk supply point, being Gordonton and Puketaha are impacted by this event. These residents are on the on-demand supply and the rural trickle feed supply network and will also be required to boil water for as long as this notice is in effect.
Investigation continues to find the cause of the initial positive E. coli sample.
