'The Jake' tournament returns to Northview courses as fundraiser for 2 charities
Vancouver Canucks hockey players will be in Surrey on Monday (Sept. 8) for an annual pre-season golf tournament at the Northview courses.
The 41st Jake Milford Canucks Charity Invitational Golf Tournament will again raise money for Canucks For Kids Fund and Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation.
Last year "The Jake" raised close to $588,000. For 2025, the fee is $2,500 for a single golfer, or $8,500 for a team of three participants hosted by a Canucks "celebrity" (player, coach, alumni or hockey operations executive).
An online prize raffle (canucks.com/milfordraffle) boasts a 18K white gold diamond bracelet valued at $16,600. All sales close at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8.
The tourney in Surrey is "a celebration of our past and our present, coming together to kick off the season and raise important funds to support the kids and families in B.C.," says a post on nhl.com.
Last September, a light drizzle fell as hundreds of people arrived at the course for breakfast and a day of golf at Northview. The shotgun-style tournament salutes Jake Milford, the Canucks' general manager in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He died of pancreatic cancer in 1984.
Presented by KPMG, "The Jake" is played prior to Canucks training camp, at South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton from Sept. 18-21.
The Canucks play their first pre-season game Sept. 21 in Seattle, then Sept. 24 at Abbotsford Entertainment Centre vs. Calgary Flames.
