The 70 top things about the 70s that Brits can't get enough of | Wales Online

For two thirds of adults, the 1970s was one of the most thrilling and inventive decades ever. Now, the top 70 highlights of the 70s have been unveiled.

A survey of 2,000 adults paid tribute to the era of flares, funk, and feathered hairdos. The top three were made up of Queen, who transitioned from newcomers to decade dominators, Fawlty Towers, which aired from 1975-1979, with Abba clinching the number one spot.

The decade witnessed the emergence of cassette tapes, polaroid cameras, and lava lamps as domestic essentials, whilst an influx of TV shows fought for prime-time glory. Brits claim among the best were The Two Ronnies, Dad's Army, and Charlie's Angels - which is being broadcast on TV channel Legend, which commissioned the research.

A spokesperson for Legend, said: "The research shows how fondly the nation feels about the 70s. Whether you lived through it or not, there's no way your life hasn't been shaped in some way by what came out during those 10 years.

"Some of the biggest cultural properties of the modern age - like Star Wars - first appeared in the 1970s, and it's amazing to think about what life must have been like when it was brand new."

Style movements such as flares and tie-dye garments, alongside the roller disco phenomenon, were additional beloved recollections from the period.

The legendary 1972 film The Godfather was selected by one in ten as a favourite memento from the era. At least 16 per cent of those not born in the decade feel they missed out, with many expressing a desire to time travel and experience the music scene of the time.

Moreover, four in 10 reckon that camaraderie and community spirit were stronger back in the 70s compared to now, with 26 per cent echoing the same sentiment about nightlife and club culture.

Over one in 10 still engage with 70s music daily, and 24 per cent regularly tune into telly shows from the era.

The spokesperson for the channel added: "There's something comforting about the aesthetic of the 70s. Pop culture from the 70s also left a lasting mark, from cult films to iconic TV shows, the characters and stories of that era continue to resonate.

"We know our shows bring nostalgia for many of our viewers, they want to turn back the clock and shows like Charlie's Angels offer them this comforting escapism."
