The police reported that today, August 30, at around noon, the 102 line received a report of a shooting in the Sykhovsky district of the city.
As a result of the injuries, the victim died on the spot.
Law enforcement officials said that he was a well-known "public and political figure born in 1971," but did not give his name.
"Law enforcement officers are taking all measures to establish the identity of the shooter and his location. All details will be disclosed in the manner and to the extent stipulated by criminal procedural legislation," the statement said.
As Babel's sources later reported, the deceased was the current member of parliament of European Solidarity and former speaker of parliament Andriy Parubiy.
According to the information, there was a previous assassination attempt on Parubiy - in 2014, a grenade was thrown at him during a meeting with members of the Maidan self-defense.
Note that Andriy Parubiy led the Maidan self-defense from November 2013 to February 2014. He also participated in the 2004 "Orange Revolution," led the Ukrainian House during the protests held in Kyiv, and was awarded as a "prominent participant of the revolution."
