Irene Cox Irene Anita Cox, age 84, peacefully passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She will be deeply missed as a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, cherished friend, and passionate prayer warrior of the Lord. Irene was born on October 15, 1940, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to John and Adaline Barncastle. She grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she graduated from Rio Grande High School as princess of the Homecoming Court. She was known for her tender and caring heart toward her precious family and friends. She was a dedicated employee at various jobs including Doc Holidays, Sandia Casino and Albertsons Market. Wherever she worked she sought out to help and pray for those she recognized as carrying heavy burdens. She later met the love of her life Dean Cox in 1971 and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Dean was instrumental in her walk with Christ. Her devotion to scripture and unwavering love for her Savior brought forth a prayer warrior. Irene was preceded in death by her father John Barncastle, mother Lena Mirabal, stepfather Gordy Mirabal, brother Rudy Barncastle, and brother-in-law Joe Verhest. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Dean Cox, son David Sanchez and wife Lisa, son Darren Sanchez, son Miller Cox and wife Kim, daughter Deanne Jewell, brother Leroy Barncastle and wife Joann, sister Lorraine Verhest, sister-in-law Pam Barncastle, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As we remember our precious prayer warrior, let us carry forward her legacy of love, faith, and her enduring compassion. She is securely in the arms of our Savior. Her favorite verse John 3:16 for God so loved the world He gave his only begotten Son that who so ever believes in Him shall never parish but have everlasting life. This is the life that she wished for everyone. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday May 23rd, 2025, at 6:00 pm, with a reception to follow from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at FRENCH - Wyoming.
