New Options for Android Developers to Offer External Purchases

New Options for Android Developers to Offer External Purchases

The rules of the Android marketplace have changed, and the developers who move quickly will be the ones who benefit most.

The Android ecosystem has entered a new era. As of October 22, 2025, following the Epic Games v. Google ruling, Android mobile developers in the US now have the freedom to integrate external purchase options directly into their games. With both iOS and Android markets open, developers can fully embrace payment flexibility by enabling alternative payment options.

For years, developers have been locked into Google Play and the App Store's billing systems and their up to 30% platform fee.

The court has issued an injunction that fundamentally reshapes the Google Play ecosystem, meaning for the first time, developers will no longer be locked into Google Play's billing system and exclusivity rules.

The injunction marks a tangible shift in how Android developers can monetize their games. From October 22, they will legally be allowed to include external purchase links directly inside their apps, giving players the option to complete transactions outside Google Play's billing system. This means developers will be able to guide players to their browser-based checkout pages, such as Xsolla Web Shop and Pay Station.
