Baptist Health Care Foundation receives $47,000 donation from Scottish Rite Foundation

The Baptist Health Care Foundation received a $47,440 donation from the Scottish Rite Foundation of Florida, U.S.A. Inc. The contribution is in addition to the group's annual gift of $15,000 to support speech and hearing services for uninsured children in our community.

The Scottish Rite Foundation has been contributing to Baptist Health Care Foundation for 27 years for a total lifetime giving of $950,000. Baptist Health Care is one of 15 hospital systems across the state of Florida that receives annual funding for child speech and hearing support.

Big Brothers Big Sisters announces Michael Robideaux Hero Award

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida is honored to recognize Jo Krasch as the recipient of the 2025 Michael Robideaux Hero Award. This honor celebrates a mentor whose remarkable courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact on the lives of local youth.

Krasch has been a Big Sister to Alishia for more than five and a half years, offering steady encouragement through seasons of growth and important milestones. During a particularly challenging year for Alishia's family, she remained a constant and compassionate presence, teaching valuable life skills like cooking and driving, and helping Alishia build confidence for the road ahead.

Their time together has been filled with creativity and purpose. Whether painting, making jewelry, or completing the impressive project of building bunk beds for Alishia's younger siblings, Krasch has encouraged hands-on learning and self-expression. The pair also takes part in the Big Futures program, attending workshops that help Alishia build confidence and plan for a successful future.

Along the way, they've made lasting memories by cheering on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball team, enjoying local events, and simply sharing moments of joy and connection. Beyond mentoring, Krasch went a step further by coordinating a generous financial contribution from her employer to support Big Brothers Big Sisters, reflecting her wholehearted commitment to the mission and to building a stronger future for local youth.

GCKH receives accreditation from BBB Wise Giving Alliance

By meeting key standards of board oversight, finances, results reporting and fundraising appeals, Gulf Coast Kid's House achieved accreditation by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance. This accreditation signifies that Gulf Coast Kid's House is deserving of donor trust as they are a well-run nonprofit organization.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance is the nation's only comprehensive charity evaluator, assisting donors in making sound giving decisions. Donors know they can trust a charity if it is accredited by the BBB WGA. Their broad standards go beyond what the law requires and dives deeper than other charity monitoring organizations. Each BBB WGA charity report process involves a rigorous review using 20 holistic BBB Charity Standards, interaction with charity officials about corrective actions needed to address deficiencies, and quality control measures to assure report accuracy.

Northwest Florida wildlife rescue centers celebrate baby shower gifts

Staff and volunteers in the three wildlife rescue centers in Northwest Florida are tirelessly answering the chirps, coos and squeals of their most vulnerable patients.

Baby wildlife season is in full swing, and the centers are overflowing with tiny raccoons, birds, opossums, squirrels, owls, songbirds and hawks demanding unwavering attention from the small but passionate teams.

At this critical time when the centers are overwhelmed with sick, injured and abandoned baby wildlife, much needed support has arrived in the form of generous gifts from the NextEra Energy Foundation, a corporate charitable foundation of NextEra Energy Inc. and Florida Power & Light Company.

The NEE Foundation has provided each of the three wildlife rescue and rehabilitation nonprofits a gift of $25,000 to help them provide the urgent care needed during the spring influx of baby wildlife.

The recipients of the donations are:

Mostly rescued by wildlife-loving citizens, the native wildlife come from nearly every county in Northwest Florida to these three nonprofits that operate on donations or sponsorships. Each of the nonprofits will take in from 2,000 to 4,000 wildlife patients this year with the goal of releasing them back into their native habitats.
