Commanders' Terry McLaurin gets $96 million contract update before season opener vs. Giants originally appeared on The Sporting News
Finally.
The Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin have reached an agreement on a contract extension. The superstar wide receiver won't be traded, and he won't miss the start of the season.
Instead, McLaurin will be out on the field against the New York Giants in Week 1 as a rich man.
The deal is worth $96 million over three years, according to insider Jordan Schultz.
That $32 million annual average value comes in just behind DK Metcalf's contract in Pittsburgh that many expected McLaurin to be pursuing. Metcalf got an extra year and an extra $1 million per season, but that makes some sense, given that Metcalf is two years younger than McLaurin.

This is a crucial moment ahead of a big season for the Commanders.
McLaurin has been their top wideout essentially from the moment he arrived out of Ohio State, but that was something that didn't matter much for the bottom line until 2024. Before then, he played with a wild assortment of mediocre quarterbacks.
In 2024, though, No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels arrived, and everything changed.
Daniels is a bona fide star, and McLaurin is his top target.

It would've been malpractice for Washington to enter this season without McLaurin on the field. This is a team that can aim for the Super Bowl. Daniels needs his WR1.
Now, they're united and ready to go. It took some serious contention. McLaurin seemed weighed down by the whole process.
All's well that ends well. The Commanders have their top receiver. He's got his big contract. And now together, they'll aim for the top of the football world.
