Fight allegedly breaks out among parents at kindergarten graduation as children cry

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (WKRC) - A fight allegedly broke out among a group of parents at a kindergarten graduation as their children stood by crying and begging for them to stop.

According to a video and Facebook post from parent Aleicia Evans, a group of parents congregated in the hallway of Faulk Elementary School after a kindergarten graduation and started a verbal altercation that soon became a physical brawl.

The video does not make it clear what initiated the argument or fight, but as the melee grew and more people became involved multiple children could be heard crying and yelling for the adults to stop fighting. Onlooking adults seemed to leave the scene with their children as soon as possible or push the kids behind them to keep them from getting hurt.

The West Memphis School District posted a statement to Facebook in response to the incident, saying:

"The district is aware of an incident involving parents that occurred today at Faulk Elementary School. The safety and security of our students, staff, and school campuses remain our top priority. We have zero tolerance for any behavior -- by parents, students, staff, or visitors -- that disrupts the learning environment or threatens the wellbeing of anyone on school grounds."

The district said that it was "fully cooperating" with the local police department to identify the parents involved in the incident.

Superintendent Eric Foister told local outlet FOX13, "We have our own camera system with sound, so we have gathered all that."

"Obviously, we are a small community, so we have the names," Foister said. "We've presented those names to the local law enforcement. They are now doing their investigative process, and we'll just wait and see how the legal system plays out."

He continued that he was going to do everything in his power to press charges against the parents and ban them from the school, but would not punish the children for their parents' actions.
