LE MARS, Iowa (KCAU) -- A semi driver is dead after the vehicle crashed and caught on fire early Monday morning.
According to a release from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, they received multiple calls at around 3:40 a.m. about a crash involving a semi truck as well as a fire.
Officials said the crash happened in the area of Highway 75 and Jackson Street in Merrill.
When officials arrived at the scene, the discovered a semi tractor and trailer that was completely engulfed in flames. Officials said that they believe that the truck was headed south on Highway 75 when it left the road and went through the west ditch, a parking lot, over Jackson Street, and came to a stop after it hit a tree in someone's yard.
The driver of the semi was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the driver has not been released at this time pending notification of the family. The crash is still under investigation.
