None hurt after vehicle crashes into downtown Madison building

MADISON, Wis. -- Nobody was hurt after a car crashed into a building in downtown Madison Wednesday morning.

Madison Fire Department crews were called to the 700 block of West Washington Ave. at around 7:15 a.m. A sedan had crashed through the door of an underground parking garage at 720 West Washington Ave. then continued across a parking lot before driving into the front door of 732 West Washington Ave.

The car had hit a support post of a pergola, bringing down a load-bearing wall. Nobody was hurt, but the crash also damaged a furnace and water heater that were just behind the wall.

Gas and electrical utilities were shut off and the MFD Heavy Urban Rescue Team responded to the scene. They removed the damaged wall and put in temporary supports.

The city's building inspector and property management were notified of the crash.
