Christmas time in Texas is truly magical. You have so many beautiful decorations around town, and people for the most part are in a more holly, jolly attitude as we approach the holiday.
And one thing we can all agree on is that kids should always be able to enjoy Christmas. We know that some families are struggling right now. But according to KHOU, there was one Texas community that stepped up big after Christmas plans were almost ruined by rats.
Like so many police departments in Texas, the Freeport Police Department was holding a Blue Santa fundraiser. They were collecting toys to donate to kids who would otherwise go without during the holidays.
The collection of toys was getting big, almost $70,000 worth of toys were collected and stored in a city building for safe keeping.
The building where the toys were being stored had some damage done to it during Hurricane Beryl, there was a crack created that was just big enough for rats to sneak into the building.
As word spread about the rat contamination, more donations started flooding in, many people and companies have stepped up to replace the contaminated toys.
