Blackburn Rovers star facing eight-game tightrope to avoid ban

Sondre Tronstad must avoid a caution in Blackburn Rovers' next eight matches or will be hit with a one-game ban.

The midfielder collected his fourth booking of the season last week, taking him one away from the five-card limit. He will serve a suspension if he missteps in the next eight games.

The cut-off for five yellow cards is 19 games in the Championship. Rovers face Sheffield Wednesday on December 6, which will be the final game before the limit is extended to 10.

That run until matchday 37 and any player that breaches double figures will be suspended for two games. A three-game suspension then comes into place if any player hits 15 in the final nine games of the regular campaign.

Tronstad has started every Championship match under Valerien Ismael this season. There is no obvious deputy for the sitting midfielder, though Kristi Montgomery and Adam Forshaw have played that role previously. The latter came on for Tronstad at the weekend and impressed.

Todd Cantwell is the only other player close to the limit, though he is on three. The captain, who should hopefully return from injury against Leicester City at the weekend, therefore has a bit more grace.

All other Rovers players have two cautions or fewer to their name.
