Nagpur: Cutting-edge innovations in ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery are transforming lives, helping patients regain their voices and recover from life-threatening infections, experts said at Mentcon 2025, the 55th Maharashtra State Conference of AOI and HNS Vidarbha, held in the city.At the three-day event, some of India's leading ENT specialists showcased new surgical techniques that are redefining treatment standards and improving quality of life.Renowned surgeon Dr Jayakumar Menon highlighted advances in Laryngeal Reinnervation, a complex procedure that repairs damaged voice nerves and restores natural speech. "A person's voice is part of their identity," he said, emphasising that modern nerve repair methods not only give patients back their ability to speak but also their self-confidence.Another highlight came from Dr TN Janakiram, who discussed Skull Base Osteomyelitis, a severe infection. He noted that timely diagnosis is critical to prevent irreversible complications. "The face of infection has changed with diabetes and immunosuppression becoming common," he cautioned, calling for heightened awareness and timely medical intervention.The conference, held at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, was attended by over 881 delegates. It featured 125 expert speakers and 11 panel discussions. Adding a global perspective, international expert Dr Neil Tolley from the UK delivered an address on the latest advancements in thyroid surgery.The conference concluded on a high note, also marking a leadership milestone for Dr Devendra Mahore, organising chairman of Mentcon 2025, who was elected vice president of the Federation of Maharashtra State Branches of AOI (FMSB).Other dignitaries present included Dr Sameer Chaudhary, Dr Ajay Deshpande, Dr Nandu Kolwadkar, Dr Sonali Khadakkar, Dr Prasad Kelkar (newly appointed president of FMSB), Dr Babasaheb Patil, Dr Sharmistha Bele, and Dr Parag Watawe.
