Leon County Teachers Association reaches 'tentative agreement' with Leon County Schools

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Leon County Teachers Association has reached a "tentative agreement" with Leon County Schools.

LCTA President Scott Mazur confirmed the tentative agreement to WCTV Thursday morning. The association also announced it Wednesday evening.

The teachers' association was able to secure "several important language changes in the contract," according to Mazur. The president said more details will be shared on Friday.

Additionally, Mazur said LCTA pushed for a 4% salary increase based on the school district's budget practices.

However, LCS responded that they would only provide state Teacher Salary Increase Allocation funds and "made it clear they would not put in additional money for salaries," according to the LCTA president.

If employees vote to ratify, Mazur said that the tentative agreement would become the official contract and the terms would go into effect. Any portions of the contract that were not modified would remain the same, per Mazur.

However, if employees vote not to ratify, "the bargaining team goes back to the table with the District to negotiate again," Mazur said.
