Up close with rising Singapore artistes Abangsapau and Regina Song at ST's free live podcast event

SINGAPORE - The live recording of the newest episode of The Straits Times' Music Lab podcast at Esplanade Annexe Studio on Oct 7 will feature two rising names in the Singapore music scene as guests - rapper Abangsapau and indie-pop singer-songwriter Regina Song.

The free event is open to the public, who will get a chance to interact with the artistes and watch them perform live.

This is the fifth instalment in the ST Podcasts Live series, which was launched in February and kicked off ST's 180th anniversary celebrations. Music Lab, which started in 2023, is hosted by ST music correspondent Eddino Abdul Hadi.

The event kicks off with an interview and performance by Abangsapau, whose real name is Shazuan Shiraj. Having performed at major events such as 2025's National Day Parade, he is known for the distinctly local yet universally relatable nature of his music.

The 26-year-old will discuss songs from his upcoming self-titled debut album, which merges genres such as hip-hop and folk and features raw and heartfelt lyrics that reflect his personal growth as well as the community he grew up with.

Abangsapau's segment will be followed by Song's.

Among the most-streamed Singaporean artistes on Spotify in 2024, the 21-year-old first encountered fame when her 2024 song, The Cutest Pair, went viral on TikTok.

It has since garnered more than 51 million streams on Spotify alone, and has been used by K-pop stars such as Kazuha from girl group Le Sserafim and Doyoung from boy band NCT in their Instagram posts.

Song will discuss her latest works, as well as how social media has had an impact on her journey as a musician. She will also perform her songs live.

Previous episodes of Music Lab featured conversations with Nathan Hartono, Shye and Alyph.
