McDowell County Sheriff's Office warns of dangerous new opioid

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) -- The McDowell County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has issued a warning to residents about a dangerous new synthetic opioid called Zene, according to a post made on social media.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the synthetic opioid has been associated with adverse health effects, including numerous deaths.

The post says the opioid is unpredictable and nearly 100 times stronger than Morphine and more potent than Fentanyl.

MCSO says the opioid can be found in fake pills and street drugs.

MCSO is urging the public to report any suspicious drug activity by calling 828-652-2235 or by submitting an anonymous tip through their mobile app.
