Stats to know: Simpson has not registered on the stat sheet this season. During roster cutdowns in late-August, he was released and then signed to the practice squad, where he has remained all season up to this point.
Breakdown: The Colts really liked Simpson's versatility coming out of Auburn. While listed as a safety in the draft, he came to the NFL with over 900 snaps on the boundary and over 300 from the slot.
However, like just about every Day 3 pick, development is needed for Simpson, which likely includes not only on the field but bulking up as well. Simpson was listed at 179 pounds coming out of the NFL draft.
He proved to be an aggressive defender over the summer, but struggled to defend deeper routes. Showcasing that he can help out on special teams will also be an important element when it comes to contributing down the road.
Spending his rookie season on the practice squad will give Simpson a red shirt-like year that could potentially lead to a backup role in 2025.
