KUCHING (Nov 3): Sarawak will soon extend the energy supply to Brunei.
According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the state currently supplies energy to West Kalimantan and Sabah, with plans to supply between 100MW and 150MW of power to Brunei in the near future.
The Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government also said Sarawak was in the planning phase of exporting one gigawatt of green energy to Singapore by 2032, once the works on the undersea transmission cable linking both regions had reached completion.
"Sarawak will continue to make steady progress in the areas of hydrogen, solar, gas turbine and biomass energy.
"Beyond hydropower, Sarawak is also in discussions with the World Bank to establish accounting principles for carbon pricing, in anticipation of carbon trading and storage.
"Plans are also underway for Sarawak to integrate itself as a central player in the Asean Power Grid," he said at the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) Excellence Awards 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Saturday night.
Dr Sim also highlighted the importance of Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and encouraged its wider use in Sarawak.
Adding on, he said public building projects and infrastructure projects must adopt Building Information Modelling (BIM).
"To encourage wider use of IBS, the state government has approved its use for new housing units in RGC Beladin and the Trusan Village Expansion Scheme.
"In addition, public building projects valued over RM10 million and infrastructure projects over RM100 million must adopt BIM by 2030," he said.
In his speech, Dr Sim also lauded the achievements of local developers on the national stage.
"I am pleased to hear that homegrown Sarawakian developers have been competing for and winning national-level awards.
"This is the way forward.
"We should strive to set the gold standard for property development not only in Sarawak, but also in Malaysia and Asean," he said.
