NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - Lots of festivals happening on Saturday during the day through the evening, and if you plan to be one of those people checking things out you may want to pack that poncho to be on the safer side as rain chances begin to increase.
For much of Saturday, the showers and storms that we've seen have stayed along our coastal areas with only some of it making it to parts of the South Shore, but things will be changing over the next few hours:
Storms will get heavier while crossing through more of the South Shore then to Lake Pontchartrain, parts of the North Shore and our Mississippi counties.
Heading into Sunday morning we will see more storms than showers...
Don't forget about the Coastal Flood Advisory that remains in effect through Sunday at 6 p.m.
The coastal flooding may be seen in lower St. Bernard, lower Plaquemines, southeast St. Tammany and eastern Orleans parishes, and southern Hancock county in Mississippi.
Minor coastal flooding up to 2-feet may be seen during high tide which could potentially flood parking lots and roadways so if you plan on driving please remember "turn around don't drown."
Also, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through Sunday at 6 p.m. too.
As for the rough waters, that will be particularly experienced at Lake Borgne, coastal Mississippi, Breton Sound, Chandeleur Sound and all the open Gulf waters east of the Mississippi River.
The National Weather Service recommends that "inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions."
Giving you an idea as to how strong the winds will get this evening into Sunday morning:
The coast will see 36-mph wind gusts out along Empire around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday then the North Shore will also see stronger wind gusts like Kentwood at 25-mph at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
That being said, if you have anything outside that can potentially be blow please be sure to bring it inside or lock it down as to prevent any future damage or injuries over the next 24-48 hours.
It's been a rather chilly day with temperatures only getting into the upper 70s, but through the overnight they won't be dropping too much only getting into the low 70s.
