Steps leading up to Wembley Stadium turn yellow in tribute to Coldplay

Steps leading up to Wembley Stadium were all yellow in a tribute to Coldplay during the band's residency at the venue.

Wembley Park collaborated with global colour authority Pantone to create a large-scale public art installation called "Yellow 25".

This pays homage to Coldplay's 25th anniversary of their hit song Yellow, ahead of the band's ten sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium.

The Pantone Color Institute matched each of the 58 steps to a specific shade of yellow, reflecting the emotional arc of Coldplay's song.

Claudio Giambrone, head of cultural programming at Wembley Park, said: "Yellow is a colour that stands out.

"It's light, energy and hope. It lifts your mood.

"That's what we wanted to bring to life with this installation."

Jane Boddy, creative director at Pantone Color Institute, added: "We were inspired to explore how sound and colour can work together to express the feeling of Coldplay's iconic 'Yellow', and how the emotional journey of the song could be visually represented through the steps at Wembley Park."

The installation forms a part of the Wembley Park Art Trail, a project that aims to make culture visible in everyday public life.

It connects two of the UK's most iconic venues, Wembley Stadium and the OVO Arena Wembley, and will run until September 30, 2025.

Justine Simons, London's deputy mayor for culture and the creative industries, said: "It's great that Wembley Park has joined with Pantone to mark this moment and celebrate the band's long-lasting impact on music and our capital, as we build a better London for everyone."

The installation was produced using a PVC-free film, aligning with Wembley Park's commitment to sustainability.

Once the installation ends, it will be fully recycled and transformed into practical items like street cones, ensuring a purposeful second life for the artwork.

The art trail also includes tributes to other artists, such as Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey.
