Blue Jays Roundup: Golf does well at Jamestown Country Club

JAMESTOWN -- Members of the Jamestown High School boys golf team got some disappointing news last week.

Their home invite was canceled due to weather.

This week they got some good news -- the meet was back on.

The Blue Jays wound up finishing third at their home invite Friday, finishing with a team score of 314. Minot North won the contest shooting a 301. The Sentinels captured its first-ever WDA regular season title. Minot North senior Kasen Rostad was medalist with a 71.

Jamestown had two golfers, Jace Dillman and Hunter Gegelman, finish within the top-10 shooting a 75 and 76 respectively. Freshman Griffin Gegelman turned in the third-best score with an 81 while Luke LeFevre shot an 82. Vaughn Romsdal and Nate Walz both carded an 84.

Next up for the Jays is the West Regional Meet on May 28 at Minot's Souris Valley Golf Course. Tee times have been set for 10 a.m.

At the 2025 State Track and Field Meet, the Blue Jays were busy trying to qualify for the finals on Friday.

The Blue Jays' 4x800 meter relay team, finished in 17th place on Friday, clocking a time of 11:06.32. Bismarck earned the top finish and No. 1 qualifying spot, finishing with a time of 9:31.04. In the 4x100 prelim, the Jays wound up with the 19th best time finishing the lap in 53.19 seconds.

Julia Skari will be racing for a 100 hurdles championship on Saturday. The senior clocked a time of 15.22 seconds to place fourth in Friday's prelim.

The Jamestown High School baseball team struck first on Friday, but Minot struck harder.

The Blue Jays fell 4-2 to the Magicians in the WDA Tournament semifinals, putting them in a must-win situation for Saturday. The Jays will play in a state qualifying game on Saturday. Game time and opponent were not determined when The Jamestown Sun went to press.

Jamestown scored the first run of the afternoon in the top of the second but Minot came back in the bottom of the inning to put three on the board.

Minot scored its final run of the game in the fifth. The Jays notched their second run in the sixth,

Derek Hatlewick was on the mound for all six innings. The JHS senior retired four batters and walked six. At the plate, Bennett Goehner went 1-for-3 while Ethan Oettle and Cody Busch were both .500 on the day.
