Vernon Kay subjected to 'massive guffaws' while supporting Tess Daly at Strictly - The Mirror

Vernon Kay has confessed he was ridiculed over a "horrendous" fashion blunder when he turned up at Strictly Come Dancing to support his wife, Tess Daly. The presenter, who has two daughters, Phoebe and Amber, with Tess, revealed details about a shopping expedition he enjoyed with youngest daughter, Amber, in Central London during his time off last week.

During a recent episode of his BBC Radio 2 programme (October 27), Vernon explained how he'd decided to seize the chance to purchase some fresh jeans - a choice that would result in "massive guffawing" at his expense.

Following a suggestion he attributed to Amber, who's "down with the kids", he said she recommended he buy some baggy jeans. So Vernon, heeding her guidance, tried some on, decided he fancied them, and eventually purchased a pair.

In his amusing description of the trousers, Vernon compared the looseness to an "80s pair of women's culottes", but remarked that he fancied them anyway and highlighted that they're "very airy".

He said: "So, you can imagine with my legs, it's like two cocktail sticks sticking out the end of a massive napkin, but I like them. And then on Saturday afternoon, I went along to Strictly Come Dancing with Amber.

"And when I walked in, I was greeted by huge, massive guffawing; 'What...ha ha ha, what are you wearing? Wow!' And Amber's like, 'They're really cool'."

He then shared the response: "No, they're horrendous!" Vernon continued: "I was quite disappointed because I walked in there with a bound in my stride, thinking, 'Hey, I feel mighty cool', but no. I'm trying to keep up with the kids."

Later during the programme, Vernon disclosed Tess' response to his bold sartorial decision. He confessed that upon her return from Strictly, Tess - who is departing the programme alongside Claudia Winkleman - instructed him to "get rid of them".

However, recalling his reply in a comically high voice, Vernon said he responded with a resolute: "No; I like them!" He jokingly conceded that, due to the breezy weather, if he wore them now, he'd fly away like a "kite" and "end up in the south of France".

In related news, reports have emerged that Vernon has shared his support for Tess after her shock exit announcement last week, which will mark the end of an impressive 21-year tenure on Strictly.

Responding to Tess' Instagram statement, her spouse shared a series of heart emojis and liked the post. He also turned to his own social platforms in reaction, sharing an article confirming the departure on his Instagram Story alongside a 'Breaking News' GIF.

Vernon subsequently posted an artist's depiction of Tess and Claudia, featuring the message: "What a fantastic duo they have been."

He proceeded to share an image of the pair with the late Sir Bruce Forsyth, writing: "Congratulations @tessdaly @claudiawinkle. What a fantastic run at the helm of @bbcstrictly."
