A popular coffee chain set to open a new branch in Nottingham's struggling Lister Gate says the store's arrival has been pushed to next year.
Costa Coffee originally said it would be opening its new store on the once-bustling Lister Gate this winter, having previously occupied a unit on the street before leaving in 2017.
The coffee chain will now move back to Lister Gate in the former WHSmith building at 38 Lister Gate, which sits opposite the Green Heart park and once directly faced the entrance of the Broadmarsh shopping centre.
However, despite originally saying the store would be up and running by winter 2025, it appears the café's opening could run into 2026, potentially in April.
A spokesperson for the coffee chain said: "We're excited to open a brand-new store on Lister Gate in Nottingham next year, bringing the Costa Coffee experience to the local community."
However, in messages seen by Nottinghamshire Live, a spokesperson for the chain appears to claim "this store is now due to open in April 2026" before adding this date "could change depending on business needs".
Costa previously confirmed that 12 jobs - including a store manager role with an annual salary of £36,000 - will be created as a result.
Costa's nearest branch in the city centre is currently only a five-minute walk away, on Friar Lane near Old Market Square.
In recent years, Lister Gate has been hit by the double whammy of the Broadmarsh shopping centre's closure in 2020, and the growing trend of shops on the street relocating to the Victoria Centre.
Costa's return to Lister Gate is the latest of several recent planned openings on the street. It's hoped the new additions will help restore the area to its former glory.
With the majority of the old shopping centre now demolished, brands such as Sports Direct and Flannels have set up.
The completion of the Green Heart - a small park developed as part of the city council's regeneration of the area - and government agency Homes England stepping in to finish the redevelopment of the old shopping centre have also boosted the once mostly deserted stretch of the city.
