Microsoft to Launch Lunar Lake-Powered Surface and Surface Pro Laptops in Q1 2025

Microsoft is set to expand its Surface lineup in the first quarter of 2025 by introducing a new 11-inch Surface device and an updated Surface Laptop Studio. The new 11-inch model is expected to be similar to the Surface Laptop Go but will feature a higher-quality design and will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus processor. This version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chip includes 8 to 10 cores and a smaller integrated GPU, making it suitable for devices with limited thermal capacity. At the same time, the Surface Laptop Studio will receive a Copilot+ version, potentially using Intel's Lunar Lake-based Core Ultra 200 CPU, AMD's Ryzen AI 300 APUs with Strix Point, or Qualcomm's Snapdragon X processors. Depending on the release timeline, Microsoft may also consider using future processors like Panther Lake for this device.

Additionally, Microsoft plans to update its Surface and Surface Pro lines with models that use Intel's Lunar Lake processors. The Lunar Lake version of the Surface Laptop 7 was first seen in October on the Chinese online retailer Goofish, featuring the Core Ultra 7 268V processor. The Surface Pro 11 will also incorporate the Lunar Lake architecture. These models are expected to be similar to their Snapdragon-powered versions, with the main difference being the addition of anti-reflective displays, a feature included in the previous Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 models. The Lunar Lake Surface Laptop may also offer 5G connectivity, enhancing its network capabilities. These new devices will be Microsoft's first Copilot+ PCs using Intel CPUs and are likely to be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2025.

According to a report from Windows Central, citing senior editor Zac Bowden, these new Surface devices represent a significant update to Microsoft's laptop offerings. The shift to Lunar Lake processors follows the evolution from Intel's earlier Raptor Lake, Raptor Lake Refresh, and Meteor Lake architectures. The introduction of Copilot+ features across these devices indicates a move towards more integrated AI-assisted functionalities.
