Adelaide United host Western Sydney Wanderers at Hindmarsh Stadium in the A-League on Thursday, looking to pick themselves up after consecutive defeats.
Having begun their top-flight campaign with a 2-1 win over Sydney FC, the Reds lost 2-1 to Macarthur before an identical loss to Auckland FC. In both those defeats, the southern Australian side conceded the second goal in the second half.
With only three points in the bag from as many games, Airton Andrioli's side are down in 10th position in the league standings. Western Sydney Wanderers (2 points) and Perth Glory (1 point) are the only sides that have fared worse.
It's a stark contrast to how Adelaide began their A-League season last time, going their first nine games unbeaten, although a miserable finish to their campaign saw them finish well below their title ambitions.
Western Sydney are one of the only two winless sides in the A-League, with bottom side Perth Glory being the other. They drew 1-1 to Melbourne City in their opening match of the season, before losing 1-0 to Auckland FC in their first away game. Against Macarthur, the Red & Black salvaged a late 1-1 draw as Anthony Pantazopoulos scored the equalizer for them in the 82nd minute.
This is a clash of two struggling teams who endured a tough start to their 2025-26 league campaign.
With quality at a premium here, Adelaide and Sydney could play out a draw.
