Lagos lawmaker empowers 250 residents with cash, PoS machines

Lawmaker representing Eti-Osa Constituency 1, Hon. Noheem Adams, on Thursday, distributed N25m and PoS machines to 250 residents.

Adams, who doubles as the House majority leader, announced the empowerment to beneficiaries at the 10th constituency stakeholders' meeting held in Lagos.

The Lagos lawmaker also assured residents in the state of the House's continued commitment to the welfare and well-being of every single Lagosian.

Speaking on the theme of the meeting, "Governance in action: the gains of the renewed hope agenda," Adams reassured that the lawmakers will not rest on their oars until the impact of governance is felt in every corner of this State.

The Lagos lawmaker said, "This unique programme gives us a viable opportunity to give an account of our stewardship as well as engage, interact and strengthen our relationship and to collectively address pressing matters affecting the growth, progress and development of a great community.

"Consequently, this year's theme, "Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda," has been carefully chosen to highlight the tangible benefits of governance, particularly in alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This also reflects the strides we are making here in Lagos State and at the Lagos State House of Assembly in particular.

"Under the dynamic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our nation has witnessed an inspiring transformation-a renewal of the transformational spirit and a reinvention of the Nigerian state.

"Today, I stand before you to celebrate these tangible achievements, to affirm our commitment to good governance, and to reaffirm that our renewed hope is not merely a slogan, but a call to action and a vision in progress.

"Under the renewed hope agenda, the administration has aggressively tackled the challenges of economic stagnation and instability. Strategic economic reforms, including a re-engineering of fiscal policies and revenue-generating mechanisms, have boosted investor confidence and diversified our economy. These reforms have led to an improved credit rating and have laid a strong foundation for economic prosperity and sustainable development.

"The Renewed Hope Agenda is not by chance; it is a deliberate blueprint for national recovery and sustainability. It is designed to take millions of Nigerians out of poverty by unlocking economic opportunities for all Nigerians, young and old, men and women, in both urban and rural areas.

"In consonance with the national drive for progress, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwa-Olu of Lagos State has been a pivotal partner in the realisation of this shared vision. His tenure has been characterized by Innovative Urban Renewal Projects. Efficient Public Service Delivery and Legislative Collaboration for Sustainable Growth.

"The proactive engagement between the Executive arm and the Lagos State House of Assembly, ably led by the Rt. Hon (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has led the passage of progressive laws that support social welfare, environmental sustainability, and infrastructural innovation.

"Today, as we applaud the achievements of Governor Sanwo Olu and the relentless efforts of the Lagos State House of Assembly, we recognise that Lagos stands as a reaffirmation of what can be achieved when visionary leadership meets agile, responsive governance."

Earlier in his opening remarks, Chairman of Eti-Osa LG, Shamsideen Agunbiade, commended the efforts of the lawmaker for upholding and sustaining the stakeholders' platform where leaders and constituents engaged and discussed issues affecting the community.

While reeling out some of the achievements of his administration, Agunbiade urged constituents to cooperate with the local authority to reap bountifully the dividends of democracy.

He said, "This gathering is a golden opportunity to speak on the challenges and also seek the cooperation of all constituents because the government alone can not address the needs of the people."

Vice Chairman, APC, Lagos Central, Pharmacist Daramola Arobadade, charged residents to get registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

While stressing the importance of residents getting registered in the CVR exercise, he emphasised that political and electoral success are measured by the number of votes recorded during an election.

He said, "The measure of political success is the number of votes that were recorded during the election. Some years ago, we were in the fourth position on the list of successful districts, but this has dwindled. Our rating has dropped significantly to the 15th position.

This calls for concern. On this note, we are calling you to act on the political trajectory of Eti-Osa LG. We are at the top in the voting pattern and registration. Once we fail in registering, it is better to throw in the towel.

We are appealing to everybody. INEC has brought back the registration exercise for those who are not yet registered. This opportunity is for all of us. INEC disclosed that it has registered a little over one million. This isn't good enough for a population of over 200 million.

If you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain about what the government is doing. Eti-Osa is one of the local governments that has the highest voting population. So let this play out during this exercise. We don't want a repeat of what played out in 2023. Go and register to be able to vote and record the highest vote for the district."

He expressed his gratitude to the populace for counting him worthy of representing them at the House.

The engagement had in attendance Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni, chieftain and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), top government officials, traditional rulers and chiefs, CDCs, market men and women, and the general public.
