JAMMU, July 31: On the auspicious occasion of Sanskrit Month, a grand one-day lecture series and seminar was organized today at the auditorium of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Shakti Nagar, Jammu, with the dual aim of promoting the divine language Sanskrit and spreading social awareness.

Sanjeev Verma, Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu & Kashmir was the chief guest while . Kameshwar Puri, Superintendent of Police (Operations and Cyber Crime) was the guest of honour. The keynote speaker was senior journalist Pradeep Dutta.
The objective of this lecture series was to raise awareness among students and youth about the dangers of drug addiction, protection against cyber crimes, and the life-threatening hazards of Chinese manja (Gattu). Simultaneously, the event also aimed to highlight the cultural, educational, and societal relevance of the Sanskrit language.
In his address, Sanjeev Verma, stated, "Addiction is a social evil that darkens the future of youth. Such awareness programs are extremely important in bringing positive change to society. Addiction numbs self-awareness, suppresses intellect, and leads society towards decline."
He further added, "Sanskrit is a language that promotes truth, purity, and self-discipline -- values that can serve as a guiding light in today's social challenges." Verma also highly appreciated the efforts of Mahant Rohit Shastri, President of Shri Kailakh Trust, for promoting Sanskrit while also addressing contemporary issues.
Kameshwar Puri, remarked, "In the digital age, cyber crimes are on the rise, and public awareness is crucial to prevent them."
He emphasized the importance of vigilance, strong passwords, two-factor authentication, avoiding fraudulent links, and monitoring children's digital behavior. He said the de-addiction is not merely a medical concern, but a matter of moral and social consciousness.
Pradeep Dutta said, "It is the duty of the media to guide society in the right direction. Both drug- addiction and cyber crime are eroding the roots of modern society. Combating them requires a revival of Sanskrit values, awareness, and collective efforts." He asserted that "wisdom, intellect, and cultural connection alone can dispel this darkness."
Renowned Physician Dr. Vishva Gupta spoke on the hazards of Chinese manja, stating that it is not only dangerous to human life, but also poses a serious threat to birds, animals, and electric lines.
Mahant Rohit Shastri said, "Sanskrit is not merely a language but an art of living. The moral aphorisms contained within it inspire individuals toward self-restraint, discernment, and righteous conduct."
Ashwani Suri, Managing Director of Dewan Devi School also spoke on the occasion besides others.
