An inquest has opened into the death of a man that is being treated as murder. The inquest into the death of Hamid Tawaab was opened by coroner Elizabeth Gray on Thursday (October 16).
Hamid, aged 59, died after he was found unconscious at his flat in Fern Court, Huntingdon, on January 20, 2025. Coroner Gray told the inquest that Mr Tawaab, also known as Michael Vidale was found by a friend "laying on the floor" of his flat at 7pm.
She added that the friend "went to get help" and an ambulance was called. After ambulance crews arrived, Mr Tawaab experienced a cardiac arrest and paramedics administered CPR.
He was pronounced dead at 8.23pm. Coroner Gray said there was no cause of death yet due to "pending further investigation". A further inquest date was not set as there is an ongoing police investigation into Mr Tawaab's death.
Officers arrested a 35-year-old woman from Huntingdon on suspicion of murder on Wednesday, October 8. She has since been bailed until January.
Mr Tawaab's family paid tribute to him last week. They said: "He was an incredibly intelligent and likeable person with a cheeky smile, an infectious laugh, and a passion for cricket.
"He was a father, grandfather, brother and uncle and we are deeply shocked and saddened by his loss and the horrific circumstances around his death. He is greatly missed, and we hope that he is at peace."
